Pasadena actually doens't have a gang problem (too much rich folks for that to happen). You might be referring to Altadena which people at times refer to as Pasadena to give people points of reference since a lot of people don't know where that is. Altadena has a bad gang problem and has for years. It is North of Pasadena.

Have you been to Pasadena? 6 gang shootings in a month? That has never happened ever in WC.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic about WC having no crime or murder at all. Not true.
They have their fair share of crime: burglaries, DUI's, disorderly conduct, traffic stops. Maybe it's light, but breaking and entering can lead to murder. They seem to have more residential burglaries than other surrounding areas which is typical of an affluent area. Just how you look at it.

There are murders there...I don't feel like putting all of the links up.

We keep coming back to this crime discussion, or maybe I'm instigating it. Crime happens everywhere. Look my Dad was a cop who became a homicide detective...I wasn't and I'm not trying to pretend I was. But I learned from him that homicides usually happen between people that know one another. This includes the gangs...generally they are killing one another and at times innocent bystanders are impacted - it's rare though. It's not that the gang members are hunting down non gang bangers - it's about their lifestyle, turf, revenge homicide, drug wars you name it. I get tired of hearing the argument that crime is crazy in other areas of the Bay and that it's COMPLETELY SAFE in the suburbs. Simply not true - you're not safe anywhere really. You might not see it in your face, but it's there. Walnut Creek has a great police force and they're able to adequately patrol areas, so no doubt this helps. Other cities are experiencing difficulties in this area and subsequently you may see an increase in crime as a result.
Crime. If you expect it, you raise the odds of experiencing it. Just my opinion.
That's all I wanted to say.

Have you ever actually been to Pasadena or do you just base comparisons off of statistics? The look and feel of it reminds me of WC, especially the downtown area.
If it does have a gang problem its not reflected in its crime rate, which is relatively low but slightly higher than WC.

LOL are you kidding me Walnut Creek? Cmon man walnut creek is ridiculously safe. Car break ins? Traffic Violations? Dui's?
22 People got murdered in Pasadena in 2006 and 2007. Probably the same or more in 08. WC probably has that many in it's entire history. Not even Concord which is the same size as Pasadena has half that many.

Cityboy, here is the crime statistics for Pasadena: Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowedYes I have been in Pasadena, I actually use to live there. Most of the violence and or gang activity happens in Altadena and not Pasadena but they usually lump the crime together with Altadena.

How can they lump it together when Altadena is a city in itself with almost 50 thousand people? Thats like saying they Lump Oakland and Alameda's crime together. They don't lump the crime together. Also Altedena has a bunch of wealthy people it's not all bad just like Pasadena isn't.. How do you explain 6 gang shootings in a month in Pasadena. Did you not read that article? That does not happen in Walnut creek. EVER. They just write tickets and bust massage parlors there. Maybe one domestic murder every 2-3 years.

My point is the word SUBJECTIVE.
You don't see why I brought it up? I brought it up because you responded to something that I wrote. lol. You started this. hahaa.
You have your opinion and I have mine based on individual experiences. What's important to me is to live in a multi-cultural area. I do not see WC that way. I have lived in Paris, London, Rome, Beijing....etc. They are not WC. That was my point.
It was not lost on me that you think Berkeley is probably wayyy out there. That's not how I see it or experience it.
It would be pointless to go back and forth on this.
I will still think WC is conservative and boring (based on my life experience).
And you will still think it's not (based on your life experience).
So you're absolutely right.

If you say so. Then it must be so.
Nowhere is "ridiculously safe". It's all about how effective law enforcement is in your area. Again WC has a great police department. Remove WCPD and trust me you will see crime.

Cityboy, Altadena is smaller and very close to Pasadena. Altadena is not known for it affluent areas not to say that they don't have them. Also, your article is not recent. Sometimes and especially with job loss claims or crime they lump Oakland with San Francisco. They shouldn't but they do. SF has more name recognition than Oakland so they tend to lump stats in with SF. It happens.
Gang activity in Pasaden is really happening in the NW area that borders Altadena.
Crime stats for Altadena is very high
