Place to live near north San Pablo Bay
i was offered an internship at a San Pablo Bay park on the north shore of the bay need to figure out where i would live. i've never been to the S.F. area and have no idea what to do for living there. i've seen comments to steer clear of Vallejo, that Benicia and Vacaville are ok, but they seem kind of far. what about the areas west of San Pablo Bay? if i can be confident that my commute would be inside of an hour, i'd be open to a few suggestions. i won't have a ton of income, but i will have a roommate and some savings, so i'm not looking for the cheapest places, but i have to be cost-conscious.

What sort of things do you like? There is something for everyone within an hour's commute. In fact, because youre working in the North Bay, that's in the non commute direction so that actually opens up your options a bit.

It's off of Hwy 37 right? If you're going to be renting, Vallejo might not be a horrible idea. The services are imploding in front of residents' eyes, but as long as you don't have kids in the school system, it's not going to affect you all that much. You can certainly get a lot of space and amenities for the money. Petaluma would be a more wise choice for someone looking to set down roots, though, and it's not THAT far away in price for rentals either.

I'd stay in Vallejo, in the apartment I had there the bedroom would hold the whole apartment I had in Berkeley. Thats on Redwood St. across from the shell station and supermarket. The place has a pool and a huge courtyard.
If you don't like it then Benicia is good as well.
