Default Daly City Earthquake Safety

I noticed that a lot of homes in Daly City West of Skyline Blvd. and Highway 1 (near the cliffs) are up for sale and have been on the market for a long time. Is it because the land there is unstable or is there another reason? Should I avoid this area? How do I find out more info about what areas of Daly City are built on solid ground and such? Thanks

I know that area seems to always be covered in chilling fog.

They're really not priced any lower or considered any less desirable than the rest of the 94015 ZIP code.. I would be more concerned about erosion on infill sections of San Francisco's Bayview, Foster City, Redwood Shores.. they held up through Loma Prieta, but that was a 7.1. A 7.7 like the 1906 SF quake is several times more powerful.

Back in the 90's (if I'm remembering correctly) during the the "El Nino" storms, many of those homes fell down the cliff due to soil erosion. Those houses are pretty much built on sand and many houses in that neighborhood were evacuated and deemed inhabitable. I remember they even had a huge part of the Great Highway closed because the parking lots were also falling over the cliffs onto the beach below. I would think anything built on that side of the highway, nearest the ocean would be affected.

You got the point. The possibility of having a major >7 earthquake within the life of your mortgage (30 years) is larger than half, do you want to live ON THE FAULT LINE? " + theTitle + " You can figure out where exactly the fault lines are yourself.
