Wink Oakland and 15'th Oakland Ca.

Actually the cross street is Harrison and 15'th sorry....Does anyone know this area..... I looked on google earth and it appears to be a downtown area, no one was sleeping on the sidewalks or anything... just wondering if it was a safe area to get a apartment...

I will be working in Hayward, and returning to my home in Las Vegas on the weekends, so I am trying to find a inexpensive studio, to crash at, and I found one in that area....

i live in oakland and like it but i have to advise against that area.there have been 4 murders in about a three block radius of that intersection in the last 3 years.i would look at jack london square and old oakland these areas are safer and have the same acess to Bart and 880.jack london square has a nice farmers market and restaurants .old oakland has great restaurants and a farmers market.also consider the rockridge or the lakeshore area near the grandlake theater.

15th and Harrison is not bad at all imo. I used to own an apartment building near there and dont recall any complaints from tenants about the neighborhood. Its actually pretty quiet for a downtown setting to be honest.

I'm with 18Montclair on this. That neighborhood's not so bad. It's also not all that exciting, though, so JLS or Old Oakland would be more interesting.

Remember to look at the victim of murders, not just the numbers---in that neighborhood, for instance, one of the two nearby murders was Chauncey Bailey, the journalist who was killed because of a high profile investigation of a local gang. Not exactly random violence. The guy who died there this year was stabbed inside his apartment in a dispute, if I remember---again, not a random act. Horrible nonetheless, but I wouldn't be more concerned about walking the streets there than in most of the other downtown neighborhoods.
