Default Good Apartments near Novato/San rafael

I moved to Novato 3 months ago but I am not currently happy with my apartment. The building is old and the management leaves a lot to be desired. After searching online - most of the available apartments are old looking and shabby.

I am looking for a one bedroom apt in the 1200 - 1350 range. Does anyone have a good experience with the buildings in the area. They all seem really old and run down to me - maybe I am not looking at the right place ?
