Default apartment in SF, job in Martinez...how awful will commute be?

I am doing travel therapy work and rented a place in SF for three months before getting my job assignment. My husband has always wanted to live in the city and I really enjoyed living there in the mid-90's so this was an opportunity to enjoy it without permanently relocating. Problem is the company I am working with wants to assign me to a job in Martinez for 6 months. I've checked the miles (35 door to door) but don't know what the commute would be like. I'm guessing I'd be moving in the opposite of flow of traffic but will it still be bad? I never went out that way when living there so I am clueless...

Any input or suggestions would help as I can refuse the position and hope that they find me something closer.

That is a pretty long haul. But if you are going to Martinez in the morning, and going back to SF in the evening, you will be in the reverse commute, so at least the traffic won't be too horrible. Normally everyone piles on 80 W in the morning and piles on 80 E in the evening, so as long as you are going opposite from that, you've got it made.

Sometimes the bridge traffic going from SF to the east bay can be pretty bad on some days during the morning hour. You can always check for traffic on 106.9 or any A.M. newstalk radio station too.

Traffic shouldn't be an issue at all, but it will be a commute. You'll get use to it, shouldn't be more than 35 minute trip.

i disagree with this being a 35 minute commute. a 35 mile commute taking 35 minutes means hitting 70 miles per hour or more during you most of your rush hour commute.unlikely...when you have to travel through the MAZE....PLEASE look at this site during peak rush hour times .it shows realtime traffic condition and congeston level. 511.org -- Traffic: Traffic Map with Driving Times
yahoo traffic will show realtime traffic speed. take a look at yahoo traffic during rush hour

Yep, the maze is a mess no matter what direction during commute hours. So you are definitely not getting through that mess at 70 mph!

It takes me an hour to go 37 miles because I have to get through the maze every morning. I spend more time in the five miles I'm stuck on 80 than I do for the 30+ miles I'm on 580.
