Recommend something fun and romantic to do this Saturday? (San Francisco: appointed, hotel)

My wife and I live about 20 minutes south of San Francisco. We have a babysitter booked from 3 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday).

I'm looking for suggestions on something fun and ROMANTIC to do in the City. Nothing super-touristy, please! I'd love to hear suggestions on (1) a good bar to start off the afternoon, (2) something fun and romantic to see or do afterwards, (3) a romantic restaurant that's not super-expensive, and perhaps something somewhat off the beaten-path, and (4) a good spot to catch some music, or perhaps even a fun show afterwards.

We're heading back up in a couple of weeks to see Wicked, so this is more of a low-key night. I just feel completely overwhelmed everytime I go on Yelp or SFgate.com trying to find something to do in the city, so any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!

Well its not super-cheap but my favorite romantic restaurant in SF is the Pacific Cafe. They are out on Geary and hmmm... 33rd or so. They do not take reservations so there is always a wait to get in, but they serve free glasses of wine to sip while you wait. I think they open at 5pm (might want to Yelp to be sure). Its certainly off the beaten path.

I just love standing outside on a foggy night sipping wine and waiting for great food (unless its freezing or raining).

Whatever you decide, you might want to think about picking one area and keeping all of your activities there (or within adjoining areas). That way, you don't waste time commuting to different parts of the city.

Other than that, it depends on what type of scene you are looking for. Are you looking for a quiet night at an intimate romantic restaurant where you can hear a pin drop on the carpet? Are you looking for a wild and loud bar/lounge for drinks? Are you into hotel bars? Do you want dance music, jazz, blues, etc? Are you interested in a place where you can have dinner AND get live music? And so on, and so on....

As a parent of a 2 1/2 year old, I understand the pent up excitement of having a date night in the City and it can be overwhelming, especially when you think about how infrequently you get this opportunity. The key thing is to remember that you can't do it all in one night and to be flexible and roll with it. If you expect everything to be "just so" or "perfect", then you will likely be disappointed, because in life, something always goes differently than you plan.
