Interesting information, 18Montclair. Where did you get this from?
I'm surprised that Frick has a higher average income than Millsmont and Adams Point.

As far as Adams Point, there are a lot of singles whose households obviously earn less...that's my guess.
As far as Millsmont, I dunno. Frick has always been one of the areas I like in that direction of town cause the homes are so well kept-same with Millsmont.

Well, and more specifically, Adams Point, which is one of Oakland's densest neighborhoods, has a lot of studios and one-bedroom rentals and condos, which are far more likely to be occupied by a single person versus a couple or family; a one-person household generally makes less than a household of two, as 18Montclair points out.

I am not looking to base my decisions on feedback I get from strangers on the internet.
I am looking for reccomendations and looking for info or areas that I might not have known before.
I am here to ge reccomendations and do some research about the things I hear, then go look and see for myself, not just base my decision on what people say.
Also, it really is a good idea to get reccomendations and information from people who actually live there now, rather than people who just pass by on their way to work like I do. I wouldn't be able to give advice about Oakland, and I wouldn't want the advice of someone who doesn't know much about the area except the negative image it has.

Dear 18Montclair:
I would like to thank you for your consistently judicious and excellently annotated posts regarding Oakland. As you might know, the moderator rebuked two of my vituperative but historically accurate posts responding to one of the right-leaning bigots on this thread. Evidently, the moderator can allow such participants to engage in calumnies, red herring logical fallacies, and thinly disguised ad hominems, so long as no one responds in kind but armed with the facts.
No matter. I will repost my point-by-point refutation sans naming the bigoted miscreant. Let one be clear: one defines a bigot as a person who obstinately or intolerantly holds to his or her own prejudiced opinions despite the wealth of information available to contradict said opinions.
You, sir, have demonstrated that befitting any important American city, Oakland is a city of sharp contrasts. Racism (per Omi and Winant's studies) and economic structures (per William Julius Wilson's ground-breaking works) have scared Oakland's marginalized neighborhoods. Yet the city still boasts very wealthy areas, gracious neighborhoods, and interesting architecture. The city's cultural life has produced noted classical conductors (Calvin Simmons), iconic film stars (Tom Hanks), ground-breaking rock/funk fusionists ( Sly and the Family Stone/Graham Central Station), Rap/Hip Hop figures, not to mention the "garden variety" Henry J. Kaiser, Catherine Asaro, Julia Morgan, and Jack London.
Upon presenting photographs of Lake Merritt's lush parks, fountains, and among the Bay Area's the finest examples of beaux-arts and art-deco buildings, one such detractor claims against all evidence that said park is "too gritty." This is bigotry in action.
When presented photographs of gracious Oakland neighborhoods composed of leafy streets, Julia Morgan homes and estates, said detractor(s) resort to the red herring so as to avoid confronting the very evidence of Oakland's considerable wealth, cultural capital, not to mention gracious quality of life that exists side-by-side with the darker aspects of American civilization. And do these contrasts not reveal themselves in such cities as New York? Los Angeles? Chicago? Boston? San Francisco?
In this, 18Montclair, you do the readers great good in that you refute bigotry with facts. How convenient for those who claim to live in affluent "Granite Bay," or other such monied honey traps for philistines and bigots, to deny, dissemble, and distract. But we know why: what might it say for such detractors to confront these most inconvenient truths, (1) The supposed multi-cultural "Hell Hole" of Oakland actually has wealthier, better educated neighborhoods than than the racially segregated, culturally bereft suburbs to where the narrow of mind and large of animus flee 2) that the ideologies of racial and class exclusivity that undergird the gated communities far flung from the hurly burly of civilization–––multicultural by definition, and full of contrasts, injustices, absurdities, dangers, and delights since and before the eternal city, ancient Rome––– and all of its discontents are undermined, utterly.
Thus, this note of thanks. In presenting Oakland that refutes the bigoted myths of its detractors in no way denies the city's problems and tragedies, but rather forces the educated, the intelligent, and the fair-minded to reconsider his or her preconceptions. 18Montclair, you might be opening a window to the very excellent qualities of Oakland, but you are, ironically, holding up a mirror to our own beliefs and the society we have built upon them. The very contrasts, the very beauty of Oakland as well as its ugly, tragic mean streets are none other than those of the nation's. To denigrate and smear Oakland is , on one hand, a way to deny, to project away from one's own self and one's own perceived society an accounting of truth as it is regarding both.
And that is the final irony. That one can even open a thread title, "Just how bad is Oakland?" reveals how desperately some of us are to disguise the real question, "Just how bad is MY community...and just how bad am I for allowing it to be this way?"

I would mostly agree with this. The basic rule I use when past Lake Merritt is, stay east of Foothill blvd for the most part.
