Fabric Stores in the East Bay??
I'm in the area for a few days and I'm looking for a fabric store. Poppy Fabrics seems to be gone. Are there any Hancock or NY Fabric stores around any longer? I'm not looking for high end. Just a place to pick up some twill and a pattern for a little girl.
Thanks!!

Some of the staff from Poppy opened their own store, Piedmont Fabric. It's on Piedmont Avenue near 40th Street.

The above mentioned are all good. Depending on how much you need and in terms of selection, I highly recommend a drive to San Jose's Fabrics' r' us. Its located at 1745 Berryessa Road. Best Ive seen in the Bay Area and the prices are super low compared to most other places.

Joanns Fabric bought out the New York Fabrics -- you can find a Joanns in Emeryville, Hayward and Fremont. The local Hancocks closed a while back -- you'd end up going to Napa or San Jose for the next one.
Stomemountain is probably a little too high end for what you want, although a friend says she gets great deals on their sale stuff.
There's a little hole in the wall in Castro Valley called Bolts End (2743 Castro Valley Blvd). And there's Beverly's Fabrics and Crafts in Alameda -- but I don't know about their regular fabrics.... I only shop for quilting cottons.

Say, there's one on E.12th in Oakland near 14th Av. I think its called Happy Stop Fabrics. Everything in the store is $2 a yard. Very hard to spot driving by but worth a trip Id say.
