Default Dog friendly communities

If working in the city and living outside of... Are there any recommended apartments for people with dogs? I can't find a place that accepts big dogs. Any suggestions?

They are pricey, but the new Uptown apartments in Oakland specialize in being pet-friendly, and I think they even have a courtyard for dogs. You can Google "the Uptown" to get their current rates---they used to be very expensive but I think are offering various deals now to try to fill the units that are left, especially if you can sign a year lease, so you may be able to negotiate. The buildings are right by BART (19th Street Oakland) and a number of new restaurants, though it's still a developing neighborhood. There may be similar buildings in other areas---not sure.

Broadly, though, you can also try negotiating on duplexes/fourplexes or other apartments that have yards---I have friends who've been able to talk landlords into larger dogs with damage deposits; I don't know of it working as well with the big management companies, but (at least in the East Bay) private landlords seem a bit more flexible.

I know 2 places in Redwood City that take big dogs, these are both really nice places and very close to the Caltrain/101.
