Just because you buy a steak does not mean it's a luxury food. There are 3 dollar steaks you can buy. Not all steak is Fillet Mignon.
If you re-read what you wrote, you asked me to show you where Reagan said 5% of the people will always be on welfare, no one ever said Reagan said people on welfare sit around and do nothing. I said that. You misunderstood who said what. Reagan was actually saying, some will be on welfare because the have no choice..

As for no understanding about poor, how little you know about him!!! He, as well as Clinton were raised with hardly enough food to eat. Reagan grew up in a dirt poor family. Although he had a mother and father, his father was not really a part of his life emotionally and had many problems. If you call that not understanding I can't think of anything else to say, not to mention he was a liberal, union supporting democrat until his early 50s.

No I didn't you started your post off with:

I responded asking you to show me proof of that. Then you said:

I then responded to that. Why would I ask you for proof that Ronald Regan would say something he typical would say? I don't need proof to know he would say something stupid like 95% of people have a choice not to be on welfare.

As for Regan being dirt poor, what does that have to do with his concern for the poor? He's one of those that thinks because he made it everybody can make it. Even if they have dramatically different situations. He might as well have said, hey I made it as a Hollywood actor 95% of those who don’t, don't try hard enough.

Of course he was a democrat in the Early 50s. The democratic party was home to people like Strom Thurmond and others who eventually went republican. That means nothing.

Calm down, Reagan was not saying 95% have a choice, he was simply saying, 5% need to depend on assistance. I don't think he meant 95% could be off welfare if they wanted. I believe he meant there will always, no matter what be a need for some welfare. Of course we don't know what he meant, we can only guess. As for being poor, you did make the comment he wasn't concerned about the poor because he wasn't one of them. I am saying he was, at one time and he got himself out of the inter city way before he made it in Hollywood, his brother did the same and was not connected in any way with Hollywood...

Yes, you are right about the party and this is still happening on both sides, people change their opinions and views. I hope you are not saying R.R. was anything like Strom Thurmond....Reagan was not only a democrat but as I mentioned he was a strong supporter of unions..

By the way, this debate between you and me all started over one person taking the lives of 4 men and whether he had any excuse for what he did. Look how far off we have gotten..

I think I am going to leave it alone for now. I will make one thing very clear, I am not a bigot, I do not judge people by anything other than do they appear to be good people and I have friends in all walks of life and all colors, religions, sexual orientations and educations. I will continue to believe with the right attitude anyone can make it in this country. I do not mean, they can be rich or famous.. I don't believe either in necessary for success and happiness. I am simply saying, a life of crime is not the answer and no one has to take that path, they choose to...

Lets just agree to disagree. I respect your point of view. I don't think you're a bigot by any means.

Almost didn't make it back to work...

The freeway southbound was closed from the Oakland border through Castro Valley and people and Fire Dept Personnel were on every overpass as the motorcade headed towards Tracy.

This morning, I saw marked police cars from every corner of the State and some out of State on the roads.

No OPD officers of dispatchers were on duty today so that all could attend the service at the overflow crowd Oakland Coliseum...

Other Police Officers from other cities in the county and the Sheriff's Department took over OPD duties... Agencies outside of Alameda County also assisted where they could.
