If people want to get a sense of why cops react the way they do then maybe they ought to spend a week with them and see what they deal with. So many people who complain about cops have never put themselves in their shoes for one minute.

I heard Bernie Madoff and his ilk were into Armani suits. Child molesters tend to be more modest though - jeans, T-shirt or polo, sometimes a cap, most likely a white male late-20's to late 40's. A rapist's selection can vary across the spectrum, so does that of drug users, pushers, etc.

Put a certain type of clothing on an individual, put him or her in a certain part of town and watch their actions for only a few minutes and we all form opinions, you do, I do, we all do..Well I don't know that you do, but if you don't you are almost not human..We all do this. The same as prejudices, we all have them, whether it is against someone because of their color, their looks or the way they dress, maybe thier attitude about life. Again, human nature, that is what it is. I would like to think I am not prejudice because I do not judge people by their color, religion, money or lack of same, education or any of those things, but I know I do have some.
And I can guarantee you if I were a cop, I would be on the lookout for a certain profile, there I used the word; profile!!!!

Do you have many friends or family members that are police officers?

Nita
And too often those very opinions come with deadly consequences for the individual stereotyped.

No one is saying that, we all know rapists, drug dealers, child molesters come in all shapes and sizes. what is being pointed out here is the basic street thug..They are two totally different groups. And why do you say or am I not understanding you, most child molesters are white males?

You are right about stereotyping but as I said, we are human. You are prejudice against cops, that is apparent, maybe against whites as well, that I do not know, I have my ideas about certain groups. It could be the fat person, maybe I think he/she is discusting because they just eat too much or the liberal, because I am not and I think they are all bleeding heart idiots. I am not saying those are two things I am prejudice about, just giving examples...

Nita

yes I do, I have nothing against police officers regardless.

but I still think profiling goes beyond clothing...that's all I've been trying to say.

I was waiting for someone to come in with the irrelevant white collar criminal as well as other types of criminals to try to spin into something to fit their point of view. When the Bernie Madoff's in the world start pulling out guns during routine traffic stops in high crime areas then you would have a point. Same thing goes for child molesters, rapits, etc..

Maybe people who enjoy that style of thug/criminal dress/style should focus their anger and attention on all the people giving that dress style a bad reputation instead of blaming cops for it. Maybe if those people cleaned up their own neighborhoods and took responsibility for their community then we wouldn't have this situation. But like I said, its easier to blame cops, society, your parents, schools, or whatever rather than take responsibility for one's own actions and actions of their community.

Now by this do you mean gunning down innocent people? If that's the case I'm not sure they are in the right line of work.

I am generalizing here and not saying that all criminals or thugs come in a a standard shape or form every time. But to deny they many have a certain look/demeanor/style of dress/etc is just naive at best.

Judging people by their initial appearance is fairly natural, you do it, I do it, most people out there do it.

If a group of black guys are dressed with baggy clothes, thug style dress then yes I will assume they are thugs. If they are dressed in normal fitting khaki's and a nice polo then I'd assume something else and the same goes with any race. I don't walk around with white socks up to my knees, Dickey shorts, a wife beater, and a blue or red bandanna b/c I wouldn't want people to assume I'm some cholo gangbanger. And if I did dress like that I wouldn't be blaming society or people for looking at me like possible gangbanger/thug.
who wears khakis and polos???? i rarely saw anyone wear anything similar to that in HS. But I guess people who wear khakis and polos don't commit crimes.

That's the thing, its style preference, and this particular style not just entitled to what you consider thugs.
I'm sure if u saw a group of non-black or hispanic boys dressed in baggy clothes on the corner you wouldn't automatically think 'oh thug!'
I'm sure some people would think 'that damn hip hop music!'
but hey I can be wrong ::shrugs::

Well there you go. Since according to you prejudice is so "naturally" ingrained in the human psyche what reason is there to stop it? You can no more blame me for being naturally prejudiced against cops or whites as groups than I can blame you for being naturally prejudiced against whatever group you happen to be prejudiced against.

Sad world we live in, and like I said on the other forum, it's only gonna get worse before it even hopes to get better.
