Default Oakland cop killer not a monster, he's a soldier

http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_1...nclick_check=1

Dozens of loved ones and supporters gathered for the evening march, organized by International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement, that took participants near a police substation within sight of the two locations where Lovelle Mixon allegedly shot the veteran officers. Mixon, 26, also was killed in the confrontation.
"I don't condone what he did, but it's bringing to light the frustrations between the community and the police," said Uhuru Movement member Kihad Deen. "This gives people a chance to speak their minds."
As mourners walked through the streets, they chanted, "OPD you can't hide, we charge you with genocide!" There were no officers patrolling the march route. Mixon's cousin, Dolores Darnell, 26, addressed the small crowd, calling him "a true hero, a soldier."

Sick. I at first thought your writing would shed light on this man being a veteran of the United States Armed Forces and him on a rampage due to post traumatic. This would help stave the horror this incident brought to countless people, and the police force affected by this senseless act. To read what you reported, nauseates me as a citizen and as a nurse. God protect me from having to provide life saving services to such hateful people. I don't care the color of your skin, and my color is not a concern either. The fact that we are people is, and our blood runs the same color. But if you hate enough to kill wantonly and then want to protest and rub this in the faces of those you traumatize....tsk. I turn my back on you.

And that mentality is an insult towards President Obama, Oprah, Colin Powell, Tiger Woods, etc. who were able to embrace the American Dream once that Jim Crow nonsense was finally done away with.

Face it: with fools like Dolores Darnell-----------who 'needs' the KKK to keep the Black man in his so-called place.

Pathetic. This guy was a rapist and more than likely a murderer, thanks to scared witnesses he got off, prior to him killing 4 cops. How is that a hero? This should not even get media attention but the media loves negativity so what else is new.

Everyone has family and friends, even criminals. I doubt that Mixon was ever a "monster" to those close to him, so of course they'll say he's not a monster, and be in disbelief over what he's done (whether they really were ignorant of his criminal doings, or were in denial, it makes no difference). Plus you have all the people who really are disillusioned with the OPD and genuinely believe that Mixon was set up, as well as all the thug and anarchist types who just want to stick it to the cops whenever they get a chance.

To most other people he's a monster of course. He killed 4 cops, is implicated in the rape of a 12 year-old girl etc, and I think he's earned that title. He did what he did...and he's definitely not a hero.

Things aren't black and white, and everyone has all sorts of complex emotions and ideas, all 6 billion of us (as cheesy as that may sound). That's why you have people marching for Mixon. Is this concept so hard for some people to understand?

So why get all worked up about this march/support for him? It was likely bound to happen anyways, from the moment that Mixon died from a police bullet...even if he hadn't killed a single cop (the support would undoubtedly be higher of that were the case). You have tons of distrust of the police in most poor neighborhoods to begin with, and Oakland was already on edge after Oscar Grant was killed.

This has nothing to do with the people of East Oakland. 50 folks or so that want to protest the man are not indicitive of the people or the sentiment of East Oakland.
