Favorite Bars in SF?
Where do you guys like to get your drink on? I'm partial to a few places, with each one being quite different from the others. I like Bottoms Up in the Mission, Nags on 18th/Geary and Holy Cow on Thursdays (drinks half off!). I always thought Nags was a bit of a dump but the people can be nice and a lot of my friends tend to go there. I've been to several places on Valencia where I had a great time but I cant remember the names.

I haven't spent alot of time in the bars in SF yet but I did enjoy Vesuvio's on the border of NB/Chinatown. It's near Columbus/Broadway. I enjoyed the chill atmosphere and the balcony/artwork.

I usually preferred bars in the Mission. Kilowatt on 16th and Albion was my regular hangout for a few years. Nice pool tables, people were always friendly. Zeitgeist, Valencia and Duboce, has an outdoor seating area which is nice on a hot summer night. Excellent place to have a drink and a smoke at the same time though they do sometimes look at you strange when you're smoking tobacco. Elbo Room, Valencia and Sycamore, was also one of my regular hangouts. It's is a good place for live music. Annie's Social Club on Folsom (SOMA) is a great pit to see bands in. That's the only reason I'd step in there. Oddly, they're pretty famous for their karaoke. If you like a good beer selection the Toronado on Haight is a good dive. The Monk's Kettle across from Kilowatt on 16th and Albion looks promising as well though a little more upscale than I generally like.

I love Zeitgeist, myself. Lucky 13 on Market in the Castro is pretty great, too.
Alas, the Toronado isn't what it used to be - the crowd's way too young for my taste nowadays, but such is the nature of the Haight.

Anyone happen to know which pub (probably in the North Beach area) that Stephan Jenkins from Third Eye Blind hangs out at? He mentions it in a song and also in a recent webcam interview, he talked about one of his favorite things to do in SF is go to "his pub". Just curious, I'm not a crazed stalker or any thing . Hell I don't even live in CA anymore.

Yeah Zeitgeist is cool, though I've never had any weird experiences smoking there. People seem to smoke whatever they want, no worries. The mission does have some good bars. Ever been to Clooneys on 25th and Valencia? I went there for the first time a week ago, and within 2 minutes of walking in there was a bar fight, and the bartender knew all the culprits by name. And it opens at 6am, too. A true dive bar right there . I remember seeing all the hopeless middle-aged drunks who would stumble out of that place at 11 a.m, back when I was in middle school...guess I've come full circle, haha.
For a more peaceful experience, the Dovre Club is right down the block at 26th and Valencia. That's a nice chill spot.

Keep coming with recomendations guys! I'm a full time worker/college student, but I still have those nights where I just need to get together with some friends and some alcohol.
