If you choose Petaluma I think you will love it. It is very family-oriented, historical, has a sense of community, and not that far from SF or Oakland, if you aren't traveling during the rush hour. Good luck! You should have no problem finding a house for 675K. Prices are falling and continue to fall all over Sonoma County, including Petaluma.
