Default Half Moon Bay beach access...more childhood memories

hey all...continuing my walk down memory lane...I had started the "Woodside/Redwood City in the 1960s" thread a couple days ago....

was a kid in the late 1960s, age 2 - 7, and we often went to Half Moon Bay to play on the beach...I remember my parents calling a gas station over there to ask if there was fog on the shore and that was the deal-maker or -breaker for if we could go....

I know the area has grown a lot and there are a couple or more upscale hotels and the whole bit now in HMB....I think we accessed the beach from a dirt road off the main highway just S of the "corner" in town....maybe a half-mile ?? S of the corner?....we had to negotiate some cliffs, but everything was bigger as a kid, of course.....

mapquest shows a Poplar St heading close to the shore in this area....is public access allowed here?....or where can the public get to the beach if it isn't all shut off now??.....

also, is the pumpkin patch still around?....don't remember if there was only one or where it was??.....

thanks for your comments......I supposed it'd suck now if I came and took a look and remembered how it was, eh????

The pumpkin patch is definitely still there.. right off of Hwy 92.

I suspect you would not think much had changed if you were to revisit. Half Moon Bay has resisted development to the nth degree and still is very much the quiet beach town it was in the '60s.

Poplar St is the main beach access point that I'm aware of.

Half Moon Bay is the self-proclaimed "Pumpkin Capital of the World" there are dozens of patches in and around the town. Pumpkins are what the area is most well known for.
