Default New job in Oakland

Hello everyone,
I am currently in the process of interviewing for a new job in Oakland near the airport and as we currently live in Scotland, we have absolutely no idea where to look for accomodation.
We are married with two young children and moving to a safe area with good schools within an hour commute would be ideal. Once we sell up everything over here, we would have in the region of $700K to spend on a house.
Do you have any suggestions as to the best areas to stay in the region?
Any help that you could spare would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Ronnie

I would suggest you look into living in Alameda. It is an island close to the airport family friendly with good schools, nice stores, beautiful views within your budget and safe. I live there and testify that all this is true.

Alameda is perfect considering all his/her criteria.

Good Call.

Good Call.
It is unanimous. Lived in Alameda for years - a great family town and a great commute for anyone working near the Oakland airport.

Thanks very much for your advice guys.
I had never heard of this island before, but I had a look on google earth and the location looks perfect for proximity to the airport and the houses look nice also, oh and the beach sealed it for us!
Hopefully everything will work out with the job and I can look forward to living in a warmer, dryer climate!

Thanks again,

Ronnie
