Santa Rosa High Crime Area? - Intersection of Hwy 12 & Merced
Help! I'm moving to the intersection of Chico & Merced, about 1 block south of Hwy 12. Is this a gang area? I have to live there for a couple of months, and now I've heard scary things about anything south of Hwy 12.
I am a woman living alone. Thanks!

Santa Rosa does have some crime and gang problems. In fact and 18 year old was just killed in a drive by on monday. Merced and chico are in a rural/low population area of santa rosa so you should be fine. Also crime isn't really rampant in santa rosa, you don't really risk being the victim of a crime unless you hang out with gang members. There are a very higher crime areas of SR that should be avoided at night, but in the day you will be fine. These are West 9th street and the neighborhood surrounding. Mainly just avoid the southpark neighborhood adjacent to the fairgrounds and roseland.

Oh yeah, you'll have bands of blacks roaming and lounging around, making all kinds of noise, staring at you as you pass by..
(oh, did I mention they were cows? )

Thanks for the info! It SEEMED to be OK to me when I arranged to move there. I think it's kind of an odd spot, because it does have a rural feel, yet you're still in town. THEN I got warned about south Santa Rosa! You've eased my mind quite a bit.
And as for the cows, I just moved here from Wisconsin, so they're my buds!

Please, the scariest part of SR is safe. Just don't be a dummy--that's goes for anywhere you live.

Oh, I'm sure Santa Rosa is a nice town. It's just that any city of any size has somewhat dangerous neighborhoods, and I wanted to make sure I'm not moving into one of them! Thanks, everybody!

Don't worry, you'll be fine. It's good to check, but SR is really pretty safe. There are some odd shooting here and there, but they are rare and the people usually know each other. On paper it may be a sizeable place, but when you get there you see it's just a big suburb.

Moooooo!
It'll be quiet out there since you're past the "highway" part of 12 and on to the rural aspect of hwy 12 on your way to Sebastopol....
