Concord Ca
Can you tell me how concord is? My wife and I are thinking of moving to warmer climate and the Bay Area is an area we are looking at. Concord I heard is warmer and a lot cheaper than SF. Is there any other areas that are cheap and safe within 30 miles of SF. Is Oakland that bad or did Too Short just ruin the image of Oakland?

Maybe you should visit before you write off Oakland based on crime stats. Oakland is a city not a town and the majority of the crime happens in pockets like any city and the crime is limited to certain groups. You plan on setting up shop on the corner?

You see that's what I can't understand about western cities, in the midwest you know when your in the hood and to be completely honest when I see pictures of bad Oak and LA it doesn't look that bad but when you look at the numbers their scary. How's Daly City?

Cold. If you want warm, Daly City is on the wrong side of the bay...

You'll know when you're in a "Bad" part of oakland also. True it doesn't look as run down as West Chicago or Detroit but you'll defiantly know you're in the hood driving down International Vs. being around the Lake etc. This is still California and even in the ghetto here houses cost in the 6 figures.

Daly City is best described as consistent. Right now, in Concord, it's cold, rainy, and hailing. Daly City is warmer and fairly clear skied today.

Concord does get nice and warm! Everything close to the water tends to stay a close range in temperature since it's by the water =) Tends towards fog more and cooler (for me!)
Concord/Pleasant hill/Martinez all get pretty warm in the summer semi reasonable prices for bay
Lafayette/Orinda/Moraga can get nice n' warm in the summer, but tend to cool down in the evenings w/ the fog from oakland-- Pricey

RE: Cold and warm.
Need to distinguish between seasons. The OP lives in the upper midwest, where it's wicked cold in the winter and reasonably balmy in the summer. Dirurnal range is limited compared to here.
Simply put, close to the beach, you will have cool summers and warm winters (relative to other places in the US). The more inland you go, the more it becomes like the rest of the US. Concord - hot in the summer (although cooler than the Central Valley / Deserts / etc and certainly cooler at night). Rather chilly in the winter, especially at night. Concord reliably has frost every year. Whereas, in Pacifica, frost is unheard of except in a few strange "cold air traps" set back in the hills. Concord gets a taste of winter tule fog. 40 something degrees and pea soup.

That being said, Concord still averages in the mid-50s for winter highs, and you can grow oranges and palm trees there just like anywhere else in low-elevation California. All CA inland areas, away from the ocean, experience occasional frosts on some winter mornings. Fortunately, the rainy season happens to be in winter, so there are only limited weather patterns that permit frost from forming regularly.
That winter pea soup fog can be irritating, but not nearly as bad as in the Central Valley. I remember as a kid, we had like three weeks straight, but some years, only a few mornings.
Generally, it will be much warmer in Concord than Daly City, and much sunnier, at least 9 or 10 months of the year. But each city has its merits.
Oakland has some really good parts too, so I wouldn't write it off. You just need to talk to a realtor that will guide you.
