Yes, I made a mistake on my income because I hadn't pulled my tax return out to refer to it. But the tax I paid on my AGI still was NOT 9.3% of 67,000.

I don't mean to keep harping on this (yes I do) but people keep pounding on the high taxes of California and it's actually worse in other states.

Add my property taxes to my income taxes and my total is 3350.00. My 82 year old mother living on Social Security and a small amount from investments (if she brings in 20K a year I would be shocked) -- she pays way more a percentage in taxes to PA than I do in CA. Income tax is small (I think she pays it not on SS payments but on her tiny investments, but her property and school taxes run her almost 2500 a year. I believe in PA the school taxes are separate taxes but tied to the property but if you look at Zillow, they will only list the property taxes -- and school taxes are higher.

And the township she lives in is considering raising taxes a lot -- to update some seriously lacking infrastructure... so my sister and I may end up taking over the tax payments for her. Husband and I are perfectly okay with that.

Taxes are worse in other states, absolutely.
Taxes and fees are actually very individual. For example, Since you are self employed you pay more to the fed.
But on average, calif is a high tax state. It typically comes in at about number 19 or 20 in tax burden.
