Hahaa. Portland on Steroids. It's not, but you made me laugh. Many San Franciscans migrated to Portland during the dot com bust, almost 10 years ago now, wow time flies. I almost guarantee you the Portland folks did not (maybe still don't) consider them equal or SF being anywhere similar to Portland. I love Portland by the way, not that it's relevant. Hmmm, Seattle on the other hand reminds me a little of San Francisco in terms of the water & neighborhood layout. Again not really relevant, but I wanted to share that. Peace.

I must say ... to waste so much energy on "hating" a city is nothing short of sad. Wow already. There's just way too much negativity/hateration in the world today. Who really cares if you hate San Francisco? Pack up and get to where you wanna go. I'm so sick of negativity. @*&!^$#!!!

When I visited New Orleans a few months ago, it kind of reminded me of San Francisco. It's a relatively compact, walkable city, known for it's excellent restaurants and unique, well-preserved architecture. Canal Street, New Orleans' wide main thoroughfare, looks very similar to Market Street - it even has a streetcar running up the center of it and the street leads right to the water, just like Market.

Never figured San Francisco to have "cold" weather [maybe cool but certainly not cold - upper 50's-low 60's winter\ mid 60's-low 70's summer & no frost. Also the public transportation is the best in California.

Here's something to consider....
Why is it when someone dislikes San Francisco, do San Franciscans have such an issue with it?...
You're telling Amelia "who cares" and questioning why she cares, but at the sametime caring so much that she cares that you're taking the time to blog here about it....

San Francisco is San Francisco. It's been my home since I was eight years old. I've lived an incredible life here full of ups and downs--and I've been fortunate enough to meet some cool people along the way.

But here's my two cents about the city... here’s what I don’t like about it, and what I do agree with from that website…. Why do people in SF always take it so personal when someone doesn't like it?... It's all subjective, is it not? If someone doesn't like SF, then oh well. We are all different, and we are all going to have experiences that are as unique as we are. San Francisco may be this that and the other, but no matter how true all that is, if I visited SF for the first time only to get robbed, or rapped, or have whatever bad experience, then what do you think my feelings towards the city are going to be? And forget about all that, but by virtue of people having their own preferences, and being individuals, you are always going to have someone who is not going to like the city for whatever reason.
This all goes back to the fact that it's mostly subjective. If someone tells me that they hate San Francisco, to me I believe they're right... that is, I believe that whatever feelings they have about the city which makes them hate it is correct to them, and I also believe that they are justified to those feelings. Because, like I said, if you do not like something, in this case the city, it stems either from personal experience (you had a bad experience), or, based on your genetic predispositions which constitute the things you naturally prefer (mountains, conservative politics, hotter or colder climate, etc).
That said, I think San Francisco can be better if people just lived their lives and not cared so much about what others thought about it. That's my biggest complaint about the city.
It really doesn’t matter.

Yick. I think the only real similarity is being on the water.

I'm FOR anything that keeps people away from SF. Tourists, though I know are vital, are a pain in the patoot!

I agree with you that everyone has a right to their own opinion. Hating SF is as justified as loving it as it is one's OPINION. That said, I don't see the point in posting on an informational message board expressing your extreme hatred of a place (especially by someone who claims to have never visited, hint-- troll alert). What exactly is supposed to come of that? Seems like a waste of energy & time. If you hate something so much, why spend any time thinking or talking about it? And as for San Franciscans being defensive, I totally don't see that at all (oooops here I go now ). There's a big difference between expressing your dislikes towards a place and being vile and hateful. I would presume you agree, yes? So, if people are trying to "defend" their city against vile, vulgar comments, well.... I would say they are behaving normally as the initial comments are just WAAAAY off.

Enjoy the sunshine all!

Exactly..it's like the analogy of being really mad at your mom or sister, even calling them bit**es or something, then having some stranger that's never met your mom or sister and call them whor** and starting a blog about it!

You just don't cross that line if you have no intimate knowledge. I can say it..you cannot!

I love Northern California Coastal weather. I lived in SF for 10 years - I welcomed that fog bank every evening during the summer, at least I could sleep comfortably. The weather in the Fall is flat awesome (Indian Summer) and winters are a heck of a lot milder than most of the country.

Yeah, people can be clannish, cliquish and rude. Duh, its a big city. 750,000 people packed in a small geographic area will do that. Still, there are some really friendly, funny, faithful people there. Be friendly, open and respectful and your social plate will be full (like anywhere).

I'm a firm believer in "bloom where you're planted". You can be happy...or miserable, anywhere (I should know, I lived in Fresno before moving there and I loved my time there too). For those who "hate it", sounds like a personal problem. But if you want to avoid it, fine. There are plenty who love it to take your place.
