how do you look at the AID/STD rate in SF?
I just read a tour book which said SF is known for its AID and STD rate.although I know "you are responsible for youself",but still wonder does that overshadow the city a little bit? make it seems like not as clean as it should be.
(P.S I want to move to CA due to its beautiful weather, which make me feel happier..I love SF's advanced public transportation other than the bad number.)

You got this information from a tour guide? Right.
You do realize the AIDS epidemic is global I hope and this is a massive generalization in my opinion. Your post is begging to be flamed and become a 50 page thread, ripe with all kinds of accusations, personal insults and misinformation.
I'm not even going to go there....

Well to be fair, I'm pretty sure SF tends to have higher than average rates of infectious diseases (i'm thinking this comes with the territory when you have a high population density and especially when you have lots of immigrants from developing and 3rd world countries with poor health care). I remember seeing at least a couple articles over the years about various diseases with high rates in SF, though i can't remember what they all were. I think tuberculosis was one of them (in the Asian immigrant community, specifically).
I wouldn't worry about it at all though, unless maybe you live in some overcrowded, dirty apartment building in Chinatown or the Tenderloin, with 5 other people in your room, or in the case of STD's, if you go around "singing in the rain" without wearing your "rain coat." But like you said, that falls under the category of "you are responsible for yourself."
So in conclusion, no, it does not overshadow the city.

Miami, New York, DC, Baltimore and New Orleans all have a higher HIV rate than SF.

What kind of thread is this? This just can't be serious.

Do you plan on shooting up heroin or having unprotected anal sex with random people? Why would this be an concern?

I couldn't care less, I didn't even know about it. Unless you want to pay a homeless person on the street for unprotected sex, you have nothing to worry about.
