Is Pleasanton suburb of San Francisco or San Jose? (Oakland: live, airports)

Is Pleasanton suburb of San Francisco or San Jose? How long is the driving commute from Pleasanton to both cities?

Technically its a suburb of San Francisco and Oakland because its in Alameda County which is part of the SF-Oakland-Fremont Metro.

BUT....Its also a suburb of San Jose in the sense that many people there commute to the South Bay.

Does it really matter? Use Google Maps to check the commute between there and wherever you want to work; it will tell you what the ideal time is in addition to the "real" time in traffic. If you're willing to do the commute, then voila---it becomes a suburb of wherever you plan to work.

Think LA with a bay in the middle of it. With a few of the urban nodes a bit more funky and 19th centruryish than LA. Everyone commutes in all different directions. Where there are not topographic limitations there is continuous development. Pleasanton is analogous to Agoura, Westlake Village, or parts of OC, functionally speaking. Part of a mass of urban areas and suburbs. Where are you? Out west or back east?

Both, really. Based on travel time to work you could also add Stockton to the list.

I would have considered it marginally closer to SJ, but two co-workers of mine had to meet out that way once (actually in Livermore, but both ended up taking the same stretch of 580), with one coming from downtown SF and the other coming from somewhere in the center of SJ (I forget specifically), and the truck that left SF got there much quicker. Of course the SJ driver may have lagged or driven slower, but that was one real-life test that I think could apply to the OP.

I think it's closer to SJ by a smidge, but you can take BART to SF, making public transit options better there.

[SIZE=3]But the key is, you can still leave your windows open at night, and leave your garage open all day.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=3]It is perfect for families with kids.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=3]For adult’s entertainment, you can always take the Bart (train) to go to the big SF and get as many drinks as you like (without the DUI consequences).[/SIZE]
[SIZE=3]For jobs in Pleasanton, they industry is mainly in Software and HealthCare.[/SIZE]
