Not really. Either crime is high or it isnt and in Oakland's 'nicest' areas, crime is not high.

A few months ago, someone was shot in Upper Rockridge, a more affluent area of Oakland.
I live in Upper Rockridge and believe me when I say that aside from the isolated incident, crime in this neighborhood is not an issue for the most part.

You will be able to get more house for your $$ in Walnut Creek compared to the Peninsula, Lafayette/Moraga/Orinda, or Piedmont. Where we live in Walnut Creek, we are walking distance to a park, the public library, a swim & tennis club, a bicycle trail, and to K-12 schools.

Other communities in this area worth considering that others have not mentioned are in the Crystal Ranch and Lime Ridge neighborhoods in Concord and the town of Clayton. The schools in these areas are high-scoring also. I agree with the previous poster that these locations in the East Bay are probably ideal if you work in the East Bay or in San Francisco, otherwise the commute would suck up too much time.

Even in the nicer areas of Oakland, there is high crime rate. A few months ago, someone was shot in Upper Rockridge, a more affluent area of Oakland.

Hope this helps you.
Walnut Creek is certainly desirable...

Nice Areas just about everywhere have crime... Nice Areas of Oakland have low crime...

Correct. And having lived for ten years in one of the nice areas in Oakland, and belonging to an online neighborhood watch group, I can tell you that crime in my hood is very low. We did have one high profile case of a guy killing his wife and burying her in a park that you might have heard of (Reiser), but that hardly constitutes a crime wave . . .

aujusali is on a distinguished road
I would also like to add San Carlos, Foster City, Belmont, Redwood Shores all have excellent schools as well. Have you been to greatschools.net? Great website for picking schools and www.walkscore.com is great. You can put the address of the home in and it tells you where the schools and restaurants and shops are.
