RIP TGI Friday's
Not out of business nation wide, but at least in most of the 415 (south of GG for sure), all of the 650 and perhaps all of the 408, it's kaput. Another American old time favorite dies, in my part of the world.
Also noting that the last Black Angus on the Peninsula (Foster City) is also kaput.

Am I understanding you correctly? Fridays is out of business in a lot of places? yes, it is sad, but a trend we will see more of. Trends come and go, I think we will see more of the large chains suffer and I do not think it is solely the economy that is causing this. We have a Chilis here that just closed, yet many of our restaurants are packed all the time. peole get tired of the same ole, same ole. Many of the chains some of us grew up with are long gone.
It is like enclosed malls which were our favorite place to go only 10 years ago. Now many of the major dept stores are either gone or have merged. In fact I think they all have and this holds true with lots of large grocery chains.
Peaple are leaning toward special grocery shopping, outdoor strip malls, the inter-net and different types of food, many preferring the smaller chains or independent dining establishments.
Just my thought on the subject.

It's emblematic of the de-Americanization of the Bay Area.

Oh Lord, what is so American about TGIF? I think companies like TGIF are anti-American. The company was too big and served crappy food, and closed down Mom & Pop restaurants which is American. Who do you think owns big corporations like TGIF? It isn't Americans. I think they should close all chain restaurants, they are AWFUL!!!! The best places are one of a kind.
