Question San Bruno (Pacific Heights Neighborhood)

Hey guys,

I grew up in San Francisco, and lived in San Jose for the past dozen years... I'm now considering buying a home in the Pacific Heights Neighborhood in San Bruno... Basically, just a block up the hill from Skyline Blvd. and College Drive. I haven't really spent a lot of time in the cities just south of SF, so I need some information.

I've got two concerns:

1) Fog. How often is it foggy? Are there times in the year when it is not foggy? How often does the fog linger for the entire day (no sun)? I assume summer months will be foggy... What about spring/fall/winter?

2) Proximity to San Francisco County Jail at the end (or beginning) of Moreland Dr. Any concerns there? I know it's a new direct supervision facility, which should mean they have better control of the inmates. And felons (serving more than a year) would be in the state system rather than the county system, right? And if you were to escape from jail, would you run up the hill or down?

I lived in San Bruno (off Glenview dr) for a while. I loved it.

As for the fog, San Bruno Ave is the dividing line. Just a touch north (where you are looking) and you can expect the fog to roll in at around 4:30-5:30 about 50-60% of days. Just south at its more like 40-50% Still not as bad as Daly City. The fog rarely hung around the whole day, and seemed mostly year round. With the fog can come a very cold wind, so be ready for that. Many nights though, the fog will leave and you'll get a clear evening. Just 10 degrees colder.

As for the jail, well, I wouldn't worry much about it. Those aren't exactly the folks up at SQ.

Daly City fog is absolutely incredible. I was once driving down Skyline around 8 pm and I could not see a damn thing. The wind and the fog melded into a storm of white and it was all I could do to stay on the road until I was able to turn off at Hickey.

Anyway. For about two years I lived at about the same north/south point as you're considering, but a block west of El Camino Real, in SSF. Fog is a way of life there. It's a shame, because when it is sunny, it's quite beautiful.
