Which area of SF to move to?
I am currently living at Lake Tahoe and am getting ready to move to SF. Unfortunately I am lost trying to find out more about good places to live! Im looking for an area that has access to many opportunities w/in biking distance, around $1500/mo for rent, access to some good nightlife, parhaps with a bit more of a hippie influence?
Any comments are appreciated!

I've always been out of the loop; and so I wonder what it is people are asking for when they want "nightlife." Do you want to be able to stagger out of a bar at 2 am and wobble your way home? Are you into biker gangs? Gay bars? People just say "nightlife." It's so bizarre to me.
$1500 isn't much in San Francisco. It would go further in Berkeley and it sounds like you might enjoy it more. One of the open secrets is that a lot of young people work in San Francisco, but hang out in downtown Berkeley.

I wouldn't recommend Berkeley if you are interested in SF...
1) It's not SF
2) It's actually a long drive, if you want to go to SF daily considering the traffic
3) Costly toll across Bay Bridge
4) A bit ghetto
You might look into Haight Ashbury for your budget. There's restaurants, hippie vibe, some night clubs, panhandle, next to Golden Gate Park, easy access to downtown.

North Berkeley isnt ghetto at all and either is the 4th street shopping district. There are many undesirable parts of SF just at ghetto as south berkeley.

I second this. Lots of stores, bars, etc, that tend to keep late night hours (though I am not sure how late). You're close to the Haight Ashbury area, but not in it. Rents are more reasonable that the HA area IMO.

Bernal Heights is really cool too, and has a bohemian/artsy sort of vibe... not quite "hippie" but actually better in some ways. Rent there isn't cheap or super expensive, kind of in the middle by SF standards. Haight-Ashbury is fun but fairly overpriced, although you might find some deals in the lower Haight. Good luck!

I doubt that you will be able to get a decent place in Lower Pac Heights for $1500/month unless you have roommates.
