how safe is Irvington neighbourhood in Fremont?
Hi,
we are considering buying a new built home in Fremont's Irvington district. It comes under Harvey Green Elementary school. I need any information/ opinions about the neighbourhood and the school. This new community is located at the intersection of Blacow road and Fremont Blvd and is closer to the Irvington high school. The school ratings seem to be good. How safe/family friendly is this neighborhood? We have two small kids, one will start school soon. Any inside information will be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Fremont as a whole is very nice there is a few sketchy spots but nothing bad. I think Harvey Green (don't quote me) was one of the schools that got switched from the MSJ district which is one of the best public high schools in the country. I highly recommend the Irvington, Niles, and Centerville areas of Fremont all nice places. Also with irvington if you have boys who are going to be into sports the Irvington district is home to the FFL(Fremont Football League) fields and I believe is part of the Fremont American Baseball League. I think you will love Irvington.
edit: sorry I think it was Weibel not Harvey Green that was part of MSJ's district. Also Harvey Green is in an area of Irvington called "The Woods" because all the streets in the neighborhood have wood after them Homewood,Parkwood, Fairwood, etc. Again not a bad area where is it you are moving from? That would help me get a better sense of how it would be for you.

The nearby area of Grimmer & Blacow is known for crime problems.. nowhere in Fremont is truly dangerous, but being at an intersection with Blacow would turn me off big-time.

Thanks for the input.
We are currently renting an apartment in Santa Clara near the rivermark area.

And as for the crime people are talking about... The majority of the crime in that area is gang related.... Not in a gang then you shouldn't have any more problems then in Santa Clara

I pass by Grimmer and Blacow every night on my bike and have yet to see some gang related crime.
I think either the prev. 2 posters are not living in Fremont, or living in Mission area $$$ and trying to increase their property value. Bad.
