Possible work in Hayward...where to live
I have a possible opportunity to work in Hayward. Where would be the best place to live (rent for now) with three kids and a dog, safe with good schools?

hayward is fine, but if the schools aren't good enough for you, take a look at fremont

Castro Valley is also an option. If you don't mind a longer commute you can go "over the hill" to Dublin/Pleasanton

Ditto Castro Valley. I'd recommend renting a house that allows a dog.

Castro valley is you best bet to live and for school. If you can make it over the hill to pleasanton it gets much better overall.

Where is a good area then?
I guess anywhere could be hell for anybody. I grew up in Hayward and Castro Valley and now live in Pleasanton. IMHO Pleasanton is much nicer than either of those.

it is bland generic suburbia
i guess you consider tract houses and malls "nice"
castro valley is boring, but at least the houses/people don't all look exactly alike

Pleasanton is great for families with kids. Disregard subtle racist innuendo's comments that "everyone looks the same in Pleasanton". Schools: Almost if not all schools have testing scores 10/10. This goes for San Ramon, as well as other area's over there. You get more house for your rent or purchase, more yard ... they are newer homes because its only recently become very popular in the last few decades, people moved to get out of the overpriced area's on the peninsula. Yes its not SF or Berkeley but nowhere compares to those places anyway. If you want to compare to the peninsula or east bay, Pleasanton is no different. You have just as nice a downtown as anywhere, all the major stores and within commuting distance to SF/SJ or Haward where you work. Everywhere is suburbia outside of SF so it just depends what suburbia town you like best.
