Moving to Concord or similar
Hi,
Wife and I are moving to CA for a job opportunity in Richmond. We've done some looking and quickly realized our budget won't buy much near the Bay. Seems like our best bet is further East, and we've settled on Concord being our optimum spot with the best "purchasing power." Internet postings show several homes for sale in the Northern areas, near Hwy 4. I've seen other comments suggesting Clayton has nice areas, but we can't afford it. What parts of Concord should a family of 3 (wife and I ~25, baby 6 months) be absolutely avoiding at all costs (with a budget ~260k) as far as safety and neighborhood atmosphere?
Thanks for all the help!

Near 4 you have the area west of 242, you don't want to move there. East of 242 above Olivera (Sun Terrace) is ok. The higher you go the better. South of Olivera isn't as good but for the most part a decent area. Gets more run down as you move toward Grant.

Thanks for the response Randy. To be more specific, many homes are on the East side of 242, either north of Oliviera or just south.
Any other helpful insight would be appreciated! We are flying out tomorrow to start our house hunt, hopefully find a great place by the time we're through.

Rent in Walnut Creek or Lafayette or Orinda until you know the area and what you will like. What is the rush to purchase right now? Also, try out El Cerrito, Albany, and Alameda.
Good luck.

why people always say walnut creek, orinda, and lafayette?
If you were to choose Concord I would say your best bet would be the areas with the 94521 zip code..and areas around treat blvd, ygnacio blvd, cowell rd

I understand that, but if they said they can't afford those areas...why advise them.
IMO the only thing better about those area's are the schools..not much else.

Yeah, you are right. But with that budget it won't buy them much. They should wait a while.
