San Leandro-is it safe?
I'm looking to move back to california-I'm from the Inland valley area
and I will be working in downtown san fran. Is San Leandro safe
for a single woman in her 20's? Also, is this place a dump
because I found a relatively inexpensive one bedroom advertised?
thanks!

San Leandro is large enough that it has its good and not so good neighborhoods. In general, if it sounds really cheap - it is probably in one of the not so good neighborhoods. What is the address/cross-streets. I'm sure the board can give you a better answer with that info.

I should have asked your budget range too. There might be other cities you should consider.
I don't live in San Leandro so I don't know specific details about that location. In general though, I'm not a big fan of that part of the city.
I would check out places near San Leandro BART (Davis St and San Leandro Blvd). The rent is probably higher but in my opinion it is a nicer area. This is also one BART stop closer to SF.

Bancroft Av in San Leandro is nice. Very clean and quiet.

I'm at 14550 E 14th which is just a couple of blocks from one of the addresses you listed. I wouldn't recommend it for a single woman. I'm pretty sure that is right across the street from the high school. Maybe the Hayward hills would be better?

Based on the feedback I have received and my own research I think Alameda is a good choice. Anyone know of any apartments in the
area where a studio apartment is close to $900.00?

Alameda is a good choice.
It's easy to find studios or even a cottage in Alameda in that price range. There are a bunch listed on Craigslist.

San Leandro sucks!
Especially since Gayle McCartney moved there.

145th and E 14th is not near San Leandro High School. The Address near 144th and Bancroft is not as nice as the downtown area near the SL Bart. Rents are a little more expensive in this area,
