Default Public Transit Across the Bay Bridge from Emeryville or Berkeley

I know there is the BART but it seems very expensive. Are there any cheaper alternatives?

Cheapest Alternative is to casual carpool--you ride into the City for free by standing in designated spots where motorists pick up 2 passengers so they can use the carpool lanes on the Bay Bridge. Its free in the AM so you will only be paying one way fare back home in the evening.

Otherwise, I believe AC Transit runs the F(?) Bus from Downtown SF to Berkeley/Albany and it stops at the Emeryville Train Station. Someone will correct me if the F is the wrong letter.

AC Transit actually runs a bunch of buses from SF to Berkeley, Emeryville, Albany, Oakland, etc. Here's the full list: Transit 511: Schedules & Route Maps - AC Transit (Transbay service) Routes

They follow the old streetcar lines that used to cross into SF on the lower deck of the Bay Bridge. They're a great way to get over there assuming you need to go somewhere near the Transbay terminal downtown (and need to come from somewhere near a stop)---it's hard to beat SF to Berkeley in 15 minutes at rush hour, even on BART. *BUT* they aren't much/any cheaper than BART---$4 a pop if you ride once in a while, or $130ish a month if you commute regularly. (That does cover unlimited local bus rides too, so it's a decent deal if you use the local bus, but otherwise it's about the same as BART for many areas.) Also, many (though not all) are commute-hour only.

On BART, It will cost you $3.65 one-way from Downtown Berkeley to any of the Market Street stations. As artemis mentioned, AC transit Transbay bus service costs $4 one-way, but it may be a better option depending on how far away you are from a BART station.
