Should I go or stay is on a distinguished road
Question Any advice

I have been thinking, forever, about moving to San Fran from NYC. I just feel it is so much more open there, is this true, any ideas?

open, in what way? What is your field of work? Have you saved a large amount of money to tide you over while you find employment? What is it you want from life and how much do you know about California and the bay area? If you have plenty of $$S, job possibilities, and have spent enough time in SFO to know what the city is like, then, by all means make the move, if not, you need to think twice about moving.

This is a great case study of a pending carpetbagger transplant. The OP believes it's more "open" here, as opposed to say, the somewhat more East Coast colonial ambiance of NYC. Interestingly, there are now so many transplants from NYC as well as other places back East, that they have demonstrated Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle - they have disrupted the system and changed it into something different than its initial state.

Eventually, this will truly turn into "Sex and the City" minus the winter slush and summer balminess.

I moved from San Francisco to NYC several years ago. For me it was a good move as I was planning at the time to study in NYC and then I continued to live in NYC. (I am not originally from San Francisco or NYC!) But it really depends on what you are looking for and what your expectations are.
