This is abnormally early for a Gulf of Alaska storm (which storm #2 was - storm #1 was a cut off low).

For those wondering about the long dry period since June, that is normal and expected here.

The seasonal "summer" drought is an integral part of this climate zone. It will be punctuated only by the SW Monsoon (rarely) and moisture from tropical cylones (even more rarely).

It generally lasts from May until November, so, this year has been highly abnormal (late start and seemingly early finish).

The ecosystem here is evolved to thrive with a "summer" drought and "winter" rains.

Oh my goodness, I'm exactly the same way! I had to work this weekend, so I had today (Monday) off. My wife and I went for a short hike between Graton and Forestville in Sonoma County early this afternoon, and it's amazing what a fifth of an inch of rain can do after roughly 125 days of no measurable rainfall whatsoever. Temperature in the mid-70s, terrific visibility (no haze), nice fresh air, and big white puffy clouds overhead. We felt so rejuvenated--and hearing the little bit of rainfall along with mild lightning and thunder late Saturday night--we were loving it! Thankfully the lightning didn't start any major wildfires.

On Labor Day we drove up to the Avenue of the Giants in Humboldt County. The Eel River is almost bone-dry in places. I'm guessing the water level at Lake Shasta is very low as well. Let 'em finish up the grape harvest, and then bring on the "Pineapple Express" rain systems this winter!

I'm hoping we get enough rain/snow so next years boating season won't be as bad as this years... lots of launches unusable... even at places like Tahoe...

Bring the rain as long as it doesn't come in torrents and cause flooding...

Sounds like you had a great Monday
