Default Bicycle City?

I love commuter biking and walking, coming from 10 years in NYC and 2 in Asia, and I want to find a CA city that I can live in without a car. San Francisco, yes, but I really don't want to live there. I'd like someplace warmer so Berkeley came to mind. I'd consider SoCal too! Any thoughts? My main hopes are

1. pedestrian/biker friendly
2. diversity
3. coastal
4. warm climate
5. some international/vibrant feel, close to that of NYC

Thanks.

Thanks ferretkona. I've never considered Monterey. Let me look into that. Oh I'm considering a school in Encinitas. Any thoughts on that?
