Default San Rafael neighborhood

I am moving with my 83 year old mother to a house on Mission Ave between Irwin and Grand in San Rafael. Any comments or advice about this neighborhood re: crime or anything else of interest? Thanks!

That neighborhood is fine. It is close to San Rafael High School and the Montecito Shopping Center and adjacent to the beautiful Dominican University neighborhood. Downtown is right across the freeway and SR's downtown is quite nice imo. The only problems would maybe be kids from SR High walking to the transit bus center which in nearby. Other than the Canal/East San Rafael the city is wonderful as that is the only real undesirable place to live.

gogetta - Thanks! I notice that it's not too far from the Canal area - You don't think that it will be a problem? Is Montecito Center pretty safe?
