What's up with this site and it's obsession with bashing "liberals" why is everything turned into some sort of left wing conspiracy or political bias. Since when were republicans the standard for morality and everything right in society?

Totally agree.
I'm also sick of everyone bashing California and San Francisco. Move your ass to Kansas if you don't like it here.

The stereotype is that Republicans believe in law and order and Democrats/"liberals" are more touchy feely and want to "educate" criminals and give them a pass with sanctuary laws and non-enforcement. Since the stereotypes seem to many to be accurate, it tends to irritate a large portion of the population.

I've never really felt unsafe in SF, though I avoided streets that didn't give me good vibes. I would say I'm hypersensitive to those scenarios, so if I get the slightest unsafe feeling, I make some changes. I'm only 60 minutes from SF, and have been there bunches day and night, and no issues.
With that said, I can tell you a story about my buddy's wife. She was out with my buddy's mom and another girl or two(girls night). The walked past a group of thugs and one of them yanked her cell phone out of her hand as they went by. She asks for it back, and one of them punches her in the face from the side. She hits her head on the sidewalk, splits it open, ambulance ride, etc. Turned into a real fun night.
Obviously SF can be unsafe, we know it by statistics alone. If you don't get too wasted, listen to your gut, and be reasonably smart, it's a great place to visit.

I was born and raised in LA. Moved to SD, Newport Beach/Irvine, Hollywood Hills pre-gentrification, and Marina Del Rey/West LA, and now the bay area. With the exception of 1 mugging incident in far East Hollywood, which is seedy, but not as bad as the Tenderloin in San Francisco.
Anyway...since moving to the bay area, both of our cars been broken into, vandalized and robbed in 2 different areas, and a gun was pulled on our taxi driver in the Financial District.
There are many gangbangers, homeless and druggies who loiter on the streets in the Mission, Western Addition, Hayes Valley,Lower Haight, Downtown, theater disctricts, and SOMA areas.
THey are also in other areas, but mentioned the areas above because they either have good restaurants, major shopping, nightlife, cultural activities or close to more gentrified areas w/ no private parking garage so you are forced to park on the street in some unscrupulous areas w/ people who may vandalize or break in your car, harass your family, or rob you.
I try to limit my visits to the city now by driving only to certain neighborhoods, at this point, Pac Heights, MArina, COW HOLLOW, Embarcadero, FIDI, and downtown. Occasionally Nob Hill or Hayes Valley, but only with places providing valet parking.

Here's my answer to the type of thug who would punch a woman.
Concealed carry.

^^^ +1 Right there with you buddy. No doubt shooting someone for punching someone would land you in jail, but sometimes doing the right thing doesn't exactly mean 'doing the right thing' does it?

So we've seen 2 different girls get mugged outside our window, recently liquor store was held up at gunpoint, clothing store robbed, garage windows smashed, litter all over the neighborhood, homeless pissing in alcoves of apartments. I live in the Marina. Supposedly one of the nicest and safest in San Fran. Ha! Oh yeah, it's gone to pot the last year, it's the preps themselves who've been tearing up the place, we see them coming home drunk, yelling, fighting each other, puking all over the place and kicking other peoples cars. Go figure.

yeah but if ur in fear of immediate harm to yourself or someone else u can shoot them. just make sure u kill them, otherwise they'll sue u. thats what our county sheriff has said. but then again SF doesnt allow guns in their city, maybe thats y its so "safe" it really seems to be working.
they might have repealed that law lately im not sure
