What is the commute from Pleasanton to Palo Alto/Silicon Valley????
I am looking at possibly living in Pleasanton and I work in Palo Alto. What would the commute be to and from Pleasanton?

Brutal, don't do it. I work in Cupertino and my girlfriend lives in Pleasanton. Going to her place after work, or back to work in the morning can be 1.5 hours with traffic. I can do it in an hour with no traffic - Mission Blvd which connects 880 and 680 is a huge 15 minute bottleneck that takes a chunk out of the trip.
Palo Alto would be worse, because even if you take the Dumbarton Bridge, you still have to backtrack south on 880 to cross-over to 680 (unless you go north and take 238).
With traffic at a bad time of day, you're looking at 1.5 - 2 hours. Otherwise a bit over an hour.

It's not much fun but many people do this commute or worse.
This is the harsh reality of situation where jobs are mostly concentrated in unaffordable places and housing is miles away. It's compounded by having a bay smack dab in the middle of everything.
I've spent most of my time since returning here to Nor Cal 20 years ago, working in SF and the Peninsula. Very few of my coworkers have ever lived in the 415 or 650, nearly all of them have been 510ers, 925ers, 408ers with the odd 209er.
I am blessed to not have to do this.

When I lived in the area, my worst commute ever was tracy to sunnyvale. 2.5 hours, this was 10 years ago, so I don't know if its any better now. The long commutes was a reason I didn't like living and working in the Bay Area.

Why not live in San Jose or Sunnyvale? It's fairly inexpensive, and the commute would be under a half hour. I live near downtown San Jose and my commute to Cupertino is usually 10 - 15 mins (mind you, I avoid rush hour by getting to work late, and staying late).

Wow. That's quite a commute. The only consolation I can give you on that one is... enjoy your weekends in lovely Pleasanton.
And, the bay area is a wonderful place to live. We have everything here.

Pain, lots of it. Because you would be paying a premium price to live in one of the nicest and most central parts of the Bay Area, but still enduring an up to 90 minute commute to get to work and back.
