Has there ever been snow in San Francisco?
Where the city was covered in white, at least a dusting of white? If so, what was it like!? Any pics??

That kind of snow only falls about every 25 years or so. I mean any snow that would stick in the city at all. I've not known it to be covered in white, perhaps a dusting may stick. In the Bay Area, any snow that sticks would be in the highest hills around and even that may happen only every 3 to five years. Most snow that falls melts shortly after falling when it does fall and even that is not every year.

It snowed pretty good once in the mid 70's... it was kayos.
People could not get out of steep driveways and lots of accidents on the roads... the kids were in 7th heaven and snowmen were all around... by the next day, it was only a memory.
In 2001 the Bay Area had a nice dusting of white... not SF directly though..

I can only remember a couple of dustings, but yes, once in a great while there is some.

Feb 1976 there was enough snow to stick on lawns and create a bit of slush on roads.
Was all gone in the lowlands by noon but left a serious snow cover on higher peaks such as St. Helena, Diablo, Day, Hamilton, Umunhum, Black and Tam, that stayed for over a week.
Then almost nothing for years.
But since 1997 (which coincidentally was the Great El Nino and a relative high point in global average temperature since the Middle Ages) got non sticking snow down to sea level on multiple occasions, the most dramatic being Dec 20, 1998 - dramatic in that it happened mid day and in that it was the last day of Fall, earliest ever in my life time, for such an event.

In the past 10-15 years i can remember it "snowing" maybe 3 times in SF. The "snow" is thin, very slushy, and melts anywhere from 5 minutes to half an hour after it falls. I live pretty high up though (around 600 feet above sea level), and i'm pretty sure those light dustings nearly always happen in the high elevations only. I remember one of the times it snowed at my house, and i called my friend in another part of the city to tell him, and he though i was crazy until he saw it on the news. I have a picture of some snow we got in 2006 during this freak 2 month long period of near constant rain that we had. There was actually a blizzard in Marin County, on the other side of the Waldo tunnel from the Golden Gate Bridge. It was clear on one side of the tunnel, and people popped out on the other side in near zero visibility with icy roads and wind and snow everywhere...and this being the Bay Area where no one knows how to drive in snow and ice, and that stretch of highway being full of turns AND being downhill, that wasn't a good combination, and a few people died in a pileup. I'll post that snow pic if i can find it.
