Possible Relocation to SF
Hello all,
I am currently residing in Boston, MA and absolutely love living here, but have been presented the opportunity to relocate to either SF or NYC which are the only two North American cities I would leave Boston for (I have lived in 4 countries and 7 cities already so I have an idea of what I do and do not like)
So with that being said I want to start exploring neighborhoods in each city to get an idea of how life would be actually living in each city. I have already lived in NYC before, but have only spent time in SF on business and vacation. Which neighborhoods should I focus on if I want the following?
- Walkable area
- Close to great shopping and direct access to excellent dining options
- Close to Cultural activities (Museum, Symphony, Opera)
- Relatively safe for an Urban environment
- Able to function without a Car (Public Transit)
- Historic Neighborhood with character
- Park Space or Running options near by (I am an avid runner)
- Both my wife and I would be working downtown
- Very Urban
- Young Vibe as we are both in our late 20's
As far as the apartment is concerned I am comfortable living in any style apartment (Historic, New Luxury)
Our budget would be $3000 a month for a 2 Bedroom Unit. We could go higher if need be, but would rather stay in that range.
I know this basically sounds like the "perfect" neighborhood, but where should I focus specifically in our price range?
Thank you in advance.

Outer Richmond District of the City, near the Legion of Honor and the VA Hospital. I lived there for 10 years, it was great.
What I did was stay at the Seal Rock Inn an rode around looking for FOR RENT signs. I found a nice place overlooking the Ocean for $2100.

No the Outer Richmond is definitely NOT the place to be for your requirements.
This is the considered the 'burbs" of the City and great for families, but not for people in their 20's that want more excitement.
Look into the Marina District, Pacific Heights, SOMA, North Beach, Cow Hollow..the upper right hand part of the City (if you're looking at a map).
Even parts of the Haight, Hayes Valley (near the Opera House/Symphony) , and Panhandle..(these parts are relatively safe and hip, but perhaps a little crustier at night time)
The City is very easy to get around w/o a car and so everything is just a bus ride away.

Check out the Marina district in SF San Francisco's Marina Green and the Presidio Park Easy public transportation to downtown.
