sausalito is on a distinguished road
Default Oakland <--> Palo Alto

Where are some good areas to live, roughly in between Palo Alto and Oakland (assume husband works in PA, wife works in Oak)?

Good area priorities = 1. safe, 2. not too expensive, 3. near a nice "downtown" (like Mountain View)

Thanks!

I've never considered Fremont to be a good community for kids and am suprised to see this as the second post claiming that it is . I'd reccomend Pleasonton.

There's nothing wrong with Fremont (and no, I don't live there). Sure, some neighborhoods are better than others, but otherwise Fremont is an OK place to live. As for Pleasanton, that's really way out of the way. The commute traffic on I-580 is horrible on any given day.

Other than along Central ave. and down in south fremont(irvington not warm springs) fremont is one of the nicest plces in the east bay. I grew up there and do not possibly know what could be wrong with it. Very good schools and it is much more convenient than living in say Pleasanton.
