Luxury apartments? SJ/PA/etc (San Jose, San Mateo: rental market, condominiums, appliances)

Hello,

We are an early 20's married couple who are relocating to Northern California just before New Years. We have had some difficulty finding a luxury apartment/condo in the area between San Jose and Palo Alto (Google and Yelp always contradicted each other) and are hoping someone can point us in the right direction.

We are hoping to pay between 2.2-2.5k a month for a 1-2 bed, 1+ bath in a newer building (is this a reasonable price range?). We are the 'quiet, keep to ourselves' type and our must haves are; in-unit w/d, new kitchen appliances, option for 2 secure parking spaces (will pay extra).

What areas have buildings that fit our desired description?

Would renting direct from a condo owner be possible/preferred?

Sites other than Google/Yelp that you've had success using to find reviews on apartments/condos in the area?



We started looking in the San Mateo region, but all signs pointed south to San Jose, with maybe select spots in Palo Alto or Mountain View. We're used to lots of high-rise city options (Chicago), which we know we generally won't find on the West Coast (earthquakes, spacious land, etc), but we would like to have a similar type of apartment, even if the building isn't nearly as tall.

Palo Alto Apartments - Oak Creek Apartments - near Stanford University and Stanford Mall. Maybe less than a mile from downtown Palo Alto and easy access to I-280.

Look at Luxury San Jose Condominiums: New Condos & Homes in San Pedro Square from AxisSanJose.com

They are individually owned, but I'm sure there must be some on the rental market--owners trying to rent out their units.

Try Park Place in Downtown Mountain View. Nice, newish, really good area. MV's downtown is pretty small, but it's actually pretty good for the South Bay. Otherwise, look at Palo Alto.
