I found a nice place on the border to Campbell near Whole Foods and Trader Joe's that I like on Pamlar Avenue in the 95128 zip code. Is this a safe area to live? I checked the crime stats on crimereports.com and it looks about average since the major issues occurred on Bascom nearby.

By pretty safe does that mean I need to have a small militia with rifles and hand grenades and a Sherman tank to avoid getting shot in my home? I am not paranoid by San Jose has a lot more crime than San Diego!

I am very familiar with both San Jose and San Diego having lived in both. Actually San Jose has a little lower crime rate than San Diego. Both San Jose and San Diego have the lowest crime rates for large cities.

Here is the comparison of them both.

It's a good area, a little funky. You're between Burbank and Willow Glen. It's definitely not known as a hot spot for crime.

I live in this area and actually rented on both sides of Bascom. The area is fine, it tends to get more ghettoish once you pass Bascom and go down Stokes but I never had any problems. It all depends on your tolerance level, some people get instant paranoia at a sight of any minority with sagging pants or a car with shinny rims. Plus you'll be on the "right" side of Bascom

What side is the bad side of Bascom and when does it start? I've never heard of this before.

There are a lot of sketchy apartments along Stokes and Southwest Expwy. West of Bascom is better there.. but then you cross into the 95125 ZIP code and it's nice again. San Jose is patchy like that.

Well, if you start at Stokes and Southwest and go down Stokes toward Leigh you'll run into some neighborhoods that the OP might not see as "desirable"; mostly after Leigh. I guess Southwest is the dividing point, not Bascom. But a lot of those apartment are pretty pricey actually, I think they are trying to gentrify the area slowly but steadily.

And then there is also Bascom and Fruitdale...

No?

"Homies" frequenting the Trader Joe's, Barnes & Noble and Boswell's at the Pruneyard just might let you live.

Otherwise, don't irritate the folks at the surplus supply place on Bascom too much and you might survive.
