HI, My daughter and I are looking to move to the Morgan Hill area. We visited once and had a hard time determining what areas were good or not. We need to rent an apartment, and want to be in a good, safe area. Is Morgan Hill generally a place my daughter can ride her bike to school and I can feel safe about it? She is going into the 8th grade. I am wondering if there is much gang and drug activity in the schools there? What high school would people recommend and what general areas to live are best? Thank you for any feedback! We are coming from a small close knit town with no gangs and are a bit nervous!

I went to Morgan Hill public schools. The middle school, Britton, was in a sketchy area with significant gang activity then and it has only gotten worse, but Live Oak is good and I ultimately turned out pretty well. Knowing what I know now, though, would recommend looking in the Santa Teresa area of San Jose instead.

Thanks sonarrat, what year did you go to Britton? After seeing both schools, Britton and Live Oak, I could see the difference in kids.. weird , but don't the kids all go to Live Oak?

At the time I went to high school, everyone went to Live Oak, except for the bad kids who went to Central High (continuation school). Then they opened Sobrato High. I don't know exactly where the divide is, but I know the immediate area that Sobrato is in isn't as nice as the area that Live Oak is in. I went to Britton in the mid-'90s. Britton's problems are a product of its location, then as now. Main & Hale isn't exactly a cesspit, I would park my car there and take the bus to SJSU and never had any problems, but it's the most problematic area in Morgan Hill as car as crime goes.
