I'll be working just north of the San Jose Airport starting late this month and my wife will be a stay at home mom (at least initially). Our son is 4 and will be attending pre-school.

We're looking for a 2 BR, 1.5/2 bath single floor apartment with rent $2500 or lesser and our priorities are:-
1. Good pre-school, maybe even a good elementary school
2. Apartment community with pre-school, elementary school age children
3. Public transport to work, if possible

We're moving from Dallas, so the cost of living change is a concern. Currently we're thinking of staying in Cupertino close to a friend, but would like to understand other options. Can we manage with one car? Do any of the cities offer pre-K programs?

Thanks for any suggestions!

When my daughter lived in Sunnyvale I would walk the grandchild to DeAnza Park. There were apartments between Rockefeller and Remington Drives. The park has excellent facilities for pre-school children, the weather is fantastic almost year-round. Consider the park your back yard.

Would you be carpooling to work or leaving her home daily without a car? If carpool is a regular option then I would think it'd be okay with one. Though I'm from S.Cal so being home without a car gives me hives.
