I'm sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but if you move to a foreign country, you will probably need to assimilate in certain areas. No one's asking you to forget who you are and where you come from. Just learn to speak English and don't bring this country down to whatever standard might be 'normal' for you. Or you can just go wall yourself off and cling on to your precious heritage like a bunch of close-minded neanderthals. I'm sure THAT will help you transcend racist stereotypes real good.

Either way, if you can't swing it here, GTFO.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Talk about getting a chip on your shoulder.
I speak from a perspective of a 2nd generation Asian American, so it is MY country, too. And for your bloody information, my cohorts bring UP the standards of this country, we contribute our efforts to our communities and the country as a whole.

Just because we celebrate our heritage doesn't mean we don't reject other cultural influences. Read my post above - it's about finding a happy medium and not rejecting our backgrounds.

And for the record, I'm perfectly fluent in English, and speak Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, and some Japanese as well. You need to get it through your ethnocentric mind that just because some of us speak a language other than English, doesn't mean we don't speak English.

I love America for that reason. When I grew up, seeing everyone of different backgrounds is/was(?) standard. Only when I studied abroad in Japan and came back did I realize the beauty of how we all contribute to and get along in this wonderful country. (I love Japan too, lol)
