Hello everyone!
I am originally from Europe but I've done all my studies in San Francisco. I will graduate in less than 3 months, and (thankfully) I already have a job offer in Sunnyvale.
My question is, where should I live? San Francisco is out of the question. My hours will likely be 7:30am - 4pm, therefore I'm not willing to commute more than 30 minutes.

Some info about me, I'm a 25-year old guy, single, who needs some social life and loves pubs/nightclubs. Please keep in mind that I've lived all my life in Rome/London/San Francisco, therefore that's what I'm used to. I know I won't find that type of nightlife nowhere near the Silicon Valley, but at least I want something as similar as possible.

I've definitely done my research already (this forum is tremendously helpful), and I've concluded that I'd probably be better off in either Downtown San Jose or Santa Clara/Santana Row. Any comment on that? I'm just looking for a nice room, not a whole apartment, so money is not really an issue.

I do have a car but I will not be using it at night (no drink and drive...), and I'm not keen to drop $40 on a taxi ride back home after a night out. That's why I want to live near "happening" places. That's probably my first concern at the moment, and that's why I'm not considering places like Sunnyvale, Cupertino or Mountain View, even if they would be a short ride to work.

Thank you in advance. Any comment would be greatly appreciated

You are right on with Santana row. Downtown has a night life but it is much more SJSU and the early 20s crowd. Santana row is. Bit more grown up bunch.

You will have some traffic in the morning but you will be on the earlier side of it - when traffic is lighter.

You could also find something close to Murphy street in Sunnyvale - that way you'd be close to work and play. To me it feels a little more comfortable on Murphy street vs the upstaging competition sometimes found at Santana row.

Thank you Rebekah. Traffic does concern me indeed. I went to downtown San Jose yesterday from Sunnyvale at 5:30pm, and it took me 40 minutes

However I'm pretty sure that at 7am (northbound) and 4pm (southbound) the situation will be better. What I'm trying to understand is where will I end up spending most of my friday/saturday nights, because that's where I want to live in. Downtown San Jose didn't look terribly exciting to me, but I still think that's probably the most busy place on weekends.

Santana Row is a fun place to hang out once or twice but I doubt that I'll spend a saturday night there... And I'm a little concerned with the noise from SJC
