Hi,

I'm a research engineer working in semiconductor industry. If I post my resume at monster.com in public mode anyone can see it, including recruiters for my group and my manager.

Earlier at Monster.com one could select companies to which the resume will be invisible and will be visible to everyone else. However, that feature seems to have been removed at monster.com.

Now you can make your resume confidential at monster, but then you have to delete vital information from resume.

Is there any way to hide job search on job websites from the current employer?

Thank you,
jc

Why bother? It has been revealed that many companies only hire people who are already working and ignore the unemployed. Since that is the case, if your employer finds out, it would give you leverage since you'd be considered "elite" due to being pursued by another firm. Sick stuff, I know, but it is what it is.

Just having a resume up doesn't mean you're looking for a job, lots of people keep a current resume on file at Monster, LinkedIn, etc as a networking tool. I wouldn't worry if your boss found yours, you can explain it away pretty easily.

Yeah most people I know, always keep their resumes posted and up to date on those websites regardless of whether they are employed or not really looking for another job. They explain it as "networking" and always being "open to new opporunities' because "you never know what's going to happen."

If the boss is that petty, it's probably time to go elsewhere anyway.
