Recall that the OP's observation is a great many "suits" downtown, so maybe some aspects of the "playground" described above have been overlooked.

Also, working many years in the service of people with disablilities, "mentally ills" is a new one.

However, there is no personality at all. You people talk crap about santa Cruz, but at least there is some personality there instead of plastic and fake. People dont sit all dayin suits inoffices or in front of computers but actually go out to get some sun.

Whats funny is how in Santana Row they wear all this crappy showbosting jewelry to try making themselves rich looking or some crap when no one gives a crap about their no taste rings or medallions. And since theyre all wearing them, it only makes them appear more plastic.
LOL.

Troll or really this stupid?

It sounds like someone is trying to change things and complaining, because they do not fit in and are not accepted. Any good company is going to run checks on potential employees, and if they have any type of record, they are not going to be hired. If you don't dress to be hired, you are not going to be hired. They set standards, and there are plenty of well qualified people that will live to their corporate standards, so should a company lower their standards if you don't fit the mold they follow when hiring.

I know of one woman that applied for a top IT job with a large international mining company at their home office which is not in a big city. After they interviewed her, they told her, "We are a mining company, and we have a dress code. It is very relaxed and often you would be going to one of our mines to do an evaluation of their needs with the computers on 30 minutes notice. A suit is not really acceptable." The vice president that was interviewing her, was dressed in a wool plaid shirt and jeans along with lace up boots and a hard hat having just come from one of the mines he was inspecting. She asked him, "Then I can wear jeans and my waffle stomper hiking boots to work and that would be acceptable. I would love to be able to do that". He said we have found our new IT expert. She has worked for them for several years, and with a pull over shirt or sweater depending on the weather, jeans and hiking boots, is her everyday dress. She is considered one of them, and highly respected and earns a real good 6 figure salary. That type of dress would not be acceptable in offices in Downtown San Jose, which is the town she was raised in and understands. As she was let know, Downtown Dan Jose business dress, was not wanted in their corporation.

You have to dress, like your work mates if you want to work anywhere. That means in jobs like I was telling about above, it is far different dress than in Downtown San Jose. If the dress and requirements bother you, don't complain. Go somewhere where you fit in.

The old saying, "When in Rome do as the Romans Do", works the same in San Jose.

Default Life is what you make it

I once saw a woman being pushed in a wheelchair in downtown SJ. She had no arms and no legs, only a head and torso. She seemed quite happy.

Adjust your perspective.

This is true, but it's also a big fun show when Rome burns.
All the yuppie newcomers who changed the place and pushed natives out must have followed the same Rome logic? It's gonna be fun to see this go down, and it will.
Start stocking up on popcorn.
