Can someone recommend a bakery in Sunnyvale or immediate vicinity that offers a selection of fruit pies, merangues, and rubarb pies?

That's a bit of a tough call.

Used to be a number of them but they mostly shut. It's pretty much down to chains, of them, Marie's is probably the best.

If you are up for a road trip, head up to El Camino just off of 92 and check out Heidis. It is also a chain but with few / no other sites here in the Bay Area, and they make lots of fruit pies (often including rhubarb, whatever's in season) on a just-in-time basis.

Thanks for both these suggestions. I'll check them out. 92 would be up by Redwood City/San Mateo right?

San Mateo, a bit south of Downtown, a bit north of the Fairgrounds.

I'd recommend the pies at Draeger's : 342 First Street in Los Altos.

A bit more pricey, but yes, very good.

Or the sandwiches, or the meats, or the cheese, or the produce, or just about anything else they've got. All quite good.

Heck, you could even bake your own pie and make any flavor you want. That's what I do.
